About us — friends, songs, good food & great music

We are simply a circle of friends from Naperville who love getting together — and every get-together of ours seems to turn into an evening of songs. One friend puts on a favourite, someone else picks up the chorus, a plate of something delicious gets passed around the table, and before long the whole room is singing. That is Swardhamaal: songs we grew up with, good food shared with people we love, and great music that pulls everyone in.

No stage, no competition, and nobody counting mistakes — just friendship, full plates and fuller hearts. A melody from the sixties sits happily next to a brand-new hit, a Hindi classic hands over to a Tamil or Telugu favourite, and an English evergreen brings the house down. Like the garland in our name — a maala of swar, note after note — it is the coming together that makes it beautiful. Sing, laugh, eat, repeat.

💞 Duets

Romantic classics are twice the fun with a partner — and twice the giggles when the lines get swapped.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Group Choruses

The big numbers where nobody is solo and everybody is loud. Chaiyya Chaiyya energy, guaranteed.

🔤 Antakshari

The last letter becomes the next song. Fast, friendly, and fiercely funny when a rare letter lands.

🕺 Theme Nights

A whole evening of one mood — golden-era romance, rain songs, travel songs, or full-on dance numbers.

🌟 Golden Oldies

Rafi, Kishore, Lata, Asha — and their Tamil, Telugu and English cousins. The songs that raised us.

Karaoke Top Ten — sing along on YouTube

Four Top Ten lists, one for every language we sing in. The Hindi list links straight to the Anil Chauhan Karaoke old hits, and the Tamil list is all Ilaiyaraaja classics. Tap any song, press play on YouTube, and sing along.

Songs stream on YouTube — Swardhamaal does not host downloads, so every play supports the artists and uploaders.

    Good questions

    Is Swardhamaal a professional troupe?

No — it is a group of friends in Naperville who sing purely for the joy of it. No tickets, no stage, no pressure.

What kind of songs get sung?

Everything from golden-era Hindi film classics to today's hits, plus Tamil melodies, Telugu favourites and English evergreens. The Top Ten lists above are a good taste.

Do I have to be a trained singer?

Not at all. The only qualification is loving a song. Choruses are big, friendly and very forgiving.

    What is antakshari?

A musical chain game: sing a song, and the next song must start with the last letter (sound) of the previous one. Try the spinner above.

Where do the karaoke tracks come from?

Every song in the Top Ten lists opens a karaoke version with lyrics on YouTube — just tap, choose your favourite upload, and sing.
